  • Drop in service letter

    Tue 19 Sep 2023

    19th September 2023

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to let you know about some of the work that the counselling team do at George Carey Church of England Primary School.

The counselling team provides emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people at George Carey with a counsellor on site two days a week. The counselling service gives children and young people a space to express themselves through talking and creative work, and to think about any worries they might have.

From this term the counselling team will be offering a ‘drop in service’ which will be open to all children and young people at George Carey. The children and young people can make an appointment to spend 15 minutes with a trained counsellor, either by themselves or with a friend. Children and young people often talk about friendships or any worries they may have.

The counselling team will record your child’s name, year group, gender, the broad topic of discussion and any actions taken as a result of the session (for example another session being offered, or a discussion with an adult who might further support the child or young person should they wish)

Parental Agreement for Accessing Drop in Sessions

Could you please provide consent for your child to attend if they so wish and compete the form below and submit it to their class teacher.

If you would like to find out more, please contact the office and leave a message for Naomi the school counsellor on 0208 270 4040 who will be very happy to get back to you and answer any questions.

10TH NATIONAL RIDE - SUPPORTING CHILDREN'S EDUCATION IN MALI

The HKCC has a proud history of supporting children with education and healthcare in Africa. On the 10th anniversary of the HKCC National Ride, the club has partnered with Muntada Aid to provide a school-building educational infrastructure for a primary school on the outskirts of Bamako.

The school aims to provide free, quality modern education to 400 children (boys and girls).

    CHILDREN OF MALI

"Providing quality education for all is fundamental to creating a peaceful and prosperous world. Education gives people the knowledge and skills to stay healthy, get jobs and foster tolerance."

More than half of Mali's total population of around 19 million people are under 18.

Today, more than 1100 schools in Mali are closed due to insecurity, affecting over 350,000 children, many of whom are in the central region of Mopti. UNICEF estimates that over two million children across the country, aged 5 to 17, are out of school due to insecurity, household poverty, child labour, child marriage, and a lack of quality schools close to children's homes.

    WHY EDUCATION IN IN MALI?

Mali's young population presents immense potential for contributing positively to building the Mali of tomorrow. Many of Mali's girls and boys are denied the opportunity to reach their full potential because they are unable to access quality education, health and nutrition services, clean water, and adequate sanitation and hygiene. In addition, many children - especially girls - are exposed to various forms of violence and abuse.

One of our teachers will be cycling 120 miles from London to Bournemouth on 8th July 2023.
