Our Curriculum
Our Vision
“We recognise the gift of every child and work as one to enable them to become the person they were created to be.”
Our curriculum aims to develop knowledgeable pupils who are confident, thoughtful, curious and responsible young people, ready to make a positive contribution to their school, their community and the wider world.
Our Curriculum
Learning, Growing and Flourishing Together
At our school, we believe that every child is a gift. Our curriculum is designed to help every pupil develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and character they need to become the person they were created to be.
We have a subject-led curriculum, which means that children develop a strong understanding of each individual subject. We also make meaningful connections between subjects when this helps children deepen their learning and see how their knowledge fits together.
What will your child experience?
A Knowledge-Rich Curriculum
Children develop a secure and growing body of knowledge. They learn important facts, concepts and vocabulary and have opportunities to revisit and use what they have learned.
Learning That Builds
Learning is carefully sequenced so that new knowledge builds on what children already know. Important ideas and skills are revisited and developed as children move through the school.
Meaningful Connections
We make purposeful links between subjects where they strengthen understanding. At other times, subjects are taught separately so that children can develop a deeper understanding of the discipline itself.
Learning Like Experts
Children learn not only what to know, but how knowledge is developed and used. They increasingly learn to think and work like historians, scientists, geographers, artists, designers, musicians, mathematicians, linguists and computer scientists.
Talk, Read, Write and Communicate
Talk is an important part of learning at our school. Children are encouraged to explain their ideas, ask questions, develop their vocabulary and listen carefully to others.
We see oracy as a bridge between knowledge, thinking, communication and application.
Growing in Confidence and Character
Our curriculum supports children to become confident, independent and resilient learners. Through their learning, children develop:
Curiosity • Confidence • Independence • Resilience • Teamwork • Communication • Responsibility • Problem-solving • Respect • Courage
These qualities are developed through meaningful experiences and are woven throughout our curriculum.
Our Curriculum Aims
Ambitious & Knowledge-Rich
We want every child to develop a deep and secure understanding of the world around them.
Carefully Sequenced
Learning builds progressively, with important knowledge and skills revisited and developed over time.
Subject-Coherent
Each subject has its own identity and expertise, while meaningful connections are made where they enhance learning.
Disciplinary & Applied
Children learn how different subjects work and how knowledge can be applied in different contexts.
Oracy-Rich
Children use talk to develop their thinking, vocabulary and understanding.
Supporting Wider Development
Learning helps children develop the confidence, resilience, curiosity and responsibility they need to flourish.
