Admissions to Nursery

In order to apply for a Nursery place, please visit the school office and request an application form. This completed application form should be returned to the school, along with the original birth certificate/passport, plus council tax bill and 2 proofs of addresses dated within last 6 months. Places will be allocated per the admissions criteria, and you will be notified in due course. A home visit will be arranged prior to a child taking up their place.

If there are no places available, you will be placed on a waiting list, and notified when a place is available.

There are a limited number of 30-hour (full time) Nursery places that the school can provide to working families. Places are offered in line with the following admissions criteria:

1. Siblings already in the school

2. Looked After Children

3, Sibling of child in school with Special and Educational Needs or Disabilities

If you think that your child may be eligible for a full time place, please contact the school office for further information.

We must emphasise that having a place in the nursery does not guarantee a place the following year in Reception.

How to apply for a place - Reception to Year 6

You can apply for the school by visiting the Admissions Team at Barking One Stop Shop in the Learning Centre, Barking IG11 7NB or Dagenham Library, the Heathway, RM10 9QQ. Please note that all admissions other than for the Nursery are dealt with by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

Admissions to Reception

The admissions process for securing a Reception place usually starts as early as November in the year before the child starts school. All admissions are administered centrally by the Local

Authority’s Admissions Team at Barking and Dagenham. Parents wanting a place in the school should complete the relevant documentation and return it to the Local Authority or apply on-line. Help and advice will be provided to parents/carers by the school. We must emphasise that having a place in the nursery does not guarantee a place the following year in Reception.

Admissions to the ARP

Admissions to the ARP are made through the inclusion team at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. A specialist panel at LBBD assesses suitability for places and allocates places accordingly. Staff at the school have no influence over decisions of the allocation of pupils to this specialist unit.

Admission Criteria

Where there are more applicants than places, the Local Authority is required to have admission criteria for deciding which requests are agreed and which are refused. The admission criteria are as follows:-

  1. ‘Looked after children’ (in the care of the Local Authority)

  2. Children with an Education Healthcare Plan (EHC) whose parents have named the school

  3. Children who have a sibling already attending George Carey Church of England Primary School

  4. Children who live closest to the school measured as the ‘crow flies.’

Children who do not get a place are added to the waiting list. The waiting list is managed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is updated every term, so parents need to reapply at the end of each term if they wish their children to remain on the list.

Appeal Process

If you are unsuccessful with your application, you should follow the appeal process as set out by the Local Authority.
