Expressive Arts and Design

In this area of the curriculum children explore through the following aspects:

                                                                         - Creating with materials

- Being imaginative and expressive

The EYFS statutory framework states "The development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness supports their imagination and creativity. It is important that children have regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. The quality and variety of what children see, hear and participate in is crucial for developing their understanding, self-expression, vocabulary and ability to communicate through the arts. The frequency, repetition and depth of their experiences are fundamental to their progress in interpreting and appreciating what they hear, respond to and observe." (DFE 2021)

Children have access to role play opportunities through dressing up, role play areas and construction materials. Opportunities to explore a range of materials is available in the creative area allowing children to explore paints and other arts and crafts experiences.

Music, singing and dancing is encouraged each day, with children having the opportunities to sing and create their own songs whilst also singing familiar songs and rhymes.
