Reading
Reading at George Carey is at the heart of our curriculum, and we encourage reading from an early age with picture books and lots of discussion.
Children should be motivated to read a wide range of books, texts, mediums and genres which could be comics, ebooks, audiobooks, online articles, magazines, signs, Holy books and so much more!
We use DEAR (Drop everything and read) to allow to children to forget their normal tasks and drift away with a good book.
We aim for all of our pupils to:
Read fluently and with good understanding
Develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information
Acquire a wide vocabulary
Appreciate our heritage
Use discussion in order to learn, elaborate and explain clearly our understanding and ideas
For more information about reading or if you would like to volunteer to read with children in our class (depending on circumstances related to Covid-19) please speak to your class teacher or contact the school office.
