  • Consultation letter

    Thu 27 Jun 2024

26th June 2024 To all families at George Carey Church of England Primary School Consultation about the length of the school day. Dear School Community, The Department for Education (DFE) has advised that all schools in England should have include a total of 32 hours and 30 minutes per week for all KS1 and KS2 classes.

At George Carey we are slightly under this – 25 minutes overall per week in Key Stage 2 and 50 minutes overall per week in Key Stage 1. This means that we need to make Key Stage 2, 5 minutes longer each day, and in Key Stage 1, 10 minutes longer daily. We have a deadline of September 2024 in order to extend the school day in line with the DFE requirements. Before making changes to the school day, School Governors wanted to consult with the community about where to make these changes.

Governors propose that, from the start of September 2024 the school day timings will be extended at the end of the current school day. The table below shows this proposal: Start Time now and in September 2024 Previous finish Time New Finish Time Key Stage 1 8:55 a.m. 3:15 p.m. 3:25 p.m. Key Stage 2 8:55 a.m. 3:20 p.m. 3:25 p.m. Current timings for Early Years classes as well as ARP Specialist Classes will remain the same as they are now.

Please write to the school governors via the office (office@george-carey.bardaglea.org.uk) to give them your views to this proposed change by the 5th July 2024. Yours sincerely Chris Harrison Headteacher
