Year 1 Phonics Workshop
Mon 30 Sep 2024**Year 1 Phonics Workshop – A Successful Event!**
Last week, we held a fantastic Year 1 Phonics workshop with an incredible turnout of over 30 parents! During the session, parents were introduced to a variety of engaging activities they can do with their children to support phonics learning at home. Key resources were provided to ensure parents feel equipped to continue the learning process beyond the classroom. Parents also had the opportunity to work alongside their children, practicing the techniques they learned. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many parents expressing their appreciation for the practical support and guidance. Thank you to everyone who attended!

School Trips
Wed 18 Sep 2024Re School Trips
Dear Parents/Carers
We understand that the cost of living has risen sharply in the last 3 years and that many families are struggling to make ends meet.
With the above in mind, as a school we understand that having one trip or event each term for each year group is very hard to fund, both from the schools point of view and the parents. As a result, many trips are underfunded and have caused the school a degree of financial difficulty too.
We have decided to slim down the annual calendar of trips, and we will be sending classes on one main trip per year. We will do our best to keep the cost of this trip down to a minimum. We will send parents an amended trip schedule for the year in due course.
If you have already paid towards trips in advance, the school will be refunding this money shortly.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Harrison
Headteacher

Asda Rewards
Tue 10 Sep 2024Dear Parent/Carer
We’ve got some exciting news to share with you.
Parentkind – a charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our school, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.
Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.
It’s as easy as 1,2,3
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools (make sure you have the latest version of the app installed)
2. Choose our Primary School – either searching by name or postcode
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop
Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most.
Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

Family Support
Tue 16 Jul 2024Dear all,
I hope you are well. In recent conversations I have had with a number of our schools, it was highlighted that some schools were unaware of what support is available to parents.
Please see the link below that can be shared with parents and carers. There is a specific section (Family support) that links to positive parenting courses in LBBD. There are also links to the Start for Life offer which has all the links to online and in person parenting support.

Charity bike ride completed.
Mon 08 Jul 2024Thank you to everyone that supported and donated to this charity cause. Collectively we raised over £105,000 for medical aid in Gaza for children. I raised over £5,400 alone for this great cause.
The ride was very tough. The first 60 miles it rained non-stop with relentless wind and chills. I had severe cramps from 50 miles onwards but still continued. The last 20 miles was the toughest headwind (35mph) ever faced.. Total miles completed was 102 miles.
Once again thank you for your kind donations and words of support, this is what kept me going on a very difficult day. -

Fri 05 Jul 2024Dear Parents,
Tomorrow a member of staff will be cycling from the London to Bognor Regis with H & K Cycle Club in order to raise funds for medical aid and healthcare services. This will be around 100 miles. This is medical aid for Gaza.
Thank you to all the parents that have contributed to this cause. If you would still like to donate the link is below. Thank you for all your support. It is very much appreciated.

Consultation letter
Thu 27 Jun 202426th June 2024 To all families at George Carey Church of England Primary School Consultation about the length of the school day. Dear School Community, The Department for Education (DFE) has advised that all schools in England should have include a total of 32 hours and 30 minutes per week for all KS1 and KS2 classes.
At George Carey we are slightly under this – 25 minutes overall per week in Key Stage 2 and 50 minutes overall per week in Key Stage 1. This means that we need to make Key Stage 2, 5 minutes longer each day, and in Key Stage 1, 10 minutes longer daily. We have a deadline of September 2024 in order to extend the school day in line with the DFE requirements. Before making changes to the school day, School Governors wanted to consult with the community about where to make these changes.
Governors propose that, from the start of September 2024 the school day timings will be extended at the end of the current school day. The table below shows this proposal: Start Time now and in September 2024 Previous finish Time New Finish Time Key Stage 1 8:55 a.m. 3:15 p.m. 3:25 p.m. Key Stage 2 8:55 a.m. 3:20 p.m. 3:25 p.m. Current timings for Early Years classes as well as ARP Specialist Classes will remain the same as they are now.
Please write to the school governors via the office (office@george-carey.bardaglea.org.uk) to give them your views to this proposed change by the 5th July 2024. Yours sincerely Chris Harrison Headteacher
