Religious Education in Church of England Schools

A high quality religious education (RE) curriculum is essential to meet the statutory requirement for all maintained schools to teach a broad and balanced curriculum. At the heart of RE in church schools is the teaching of Christianity, rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ - https://www.churchofengland.org/

Why RE Matters

The ability to understand the faith or belief of individuals and communities, and how these may shape their culture and behaviour, is an invaluable asset for children in modern day Britain. Explaining religious and non-religious worldviews in an academic way allows young people to engage with the complexities of belief, avoid stereotyping and contribute to an informed debate - https://www.religiouseducationcouncil.org.uk

At George Carey C of E Primary School we use the agreed local syllabus of Barking and Dagenham as directed by the Diocese of Chelmsford. Additionally we use the Understanding Christianity document, to support the delivery of Religious Education lessons. Understanding Christianity offers a coherent approach to teaching and learning about Christianity, in the wider RE curriculum. The design of our curriculum draws on three aspects: believing, thinking and living.

At George Carey we are committed to providing a balanced Religious Education curriculum.

Year 5 Borough Wide project centered around HOPE

iSING POP School Concert

Wow!
What an amazing week! Our school has been filled with the sound of fantastic singing as we took on the iSing Pop project.
The project was a week long, learning pop style songs and dances as well as their significance and links to the Bible. This culminated in three concerts with an additional sibling concert still to come. The songs linked to our Core Christian Values of Love, Peace, Unity and Respect and ensured that the children developed a deeper understanding of their meaning.
It was fantastic to see so many parents in attendance and their feedback was incredible, each one bursting with pride and thanks.
We also had a Governor who is a local Vicar- Sam Pollard, in the audience, who spoke highly of our pupils and how wonderful it had been to see them perform with such passion.

A glimpse of RE across the school with samples of learning

Year 5 enjoyed an iPop sing workshop where they learnt and performed a song related to our world and place we all have in it.

Year 2 experienced the majestic St. Paul's cathedral.

To give thanks for those that sacrificed themselves to keep us safe the whole school took part in a variety of activities. Children in our nursery used a variety of different materials to make poppies.
